Winter in Chamonix with your pet

Where your dog is welcome this season, the rules to know, and vets in town.

Rules to know

  • Dogs are welcome in the valley, but NOT inside the Nature Reserves.
  • Buses and trains in the valley: dogs on a lead (some breeds muzzled); dogs need a half-price train ticket.
  • Lifts: dogs accepted on all lifts and cog railways EXCEPT the two sections of the Aiguille du Midi cable car and the Index chairlift (Flégère).
  • Groomed ski pistes are not for dogs. Check paws for ice and snow balls, and put your phone number on the collar.

Lift rules can change: confirm with the operator before you go. Source

Where to share the season

  • Winter walks along the Arve and in the Bois du Bouchet woods, next to the cross-country area — keep dogs off the ski tracks.
  • Dog-friendly hikes: the tourist office publishes ideas for hiking with your dog.
  • Snowshoe outings on gentle winter trails can be shared with a fit, leashed dog — never on avalanche-prone slopes.
