The MJC: the valley's community stage

Before the clubs open for winter, the Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture keeps live music going all year.

Chamonix's nightlife gets the headlines, but much of the valley's live music happens somewhere more modest: the MJC de Chamonix and its hall, La Coupole.

Its ticket structure is simple — for its next listed show, The Basel Friend Zone on Saturday 17 October at 20:30, it's €17 full, €13 reduced, €11 for members and from €8 for children.

The MJC has also run a Tremplin Musiques Actuelles, a free springboard contest for amplified-music acts from Haute-Savoie, with a jury and audience vote — the kind of ladder local artists need.

Why it matters for the scene

Clubs open with the snow. Community venues stay open all year and give young local artists a first stage. A healthy scene needs both.
